FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/2025 wraps with a thrilling finish on Poligras turf
Dutch dominate and Spain and Argentina secure their World Cup slots.
The 2024/25 Pro League concluded in Germany and Belgium over the last weekend of June having spanned host cities across the world from Amsterdam, Antwerp, Berlin, Bhubaneswar, Hangzhou, London, Santiago del Estero, Sydney, and Valencia. The Dutch took the double with both the Netherlands men’s and women’s team topping the Pro League table. The men’s tournament came down to the wire, with the last remaining World Cup qualifying slot being decided in the final game between Spain and hosts, Germany. Argentina’s women booked their place in the 2026 World Cup while Belgium and China women proved their stars are on the rise.
Dutch dominance in the women’s competition
In Antwerp, the Dutch women capped off their Pro League campaign in fitting fashion, edging Belgium in a tense shootout after a 2–2 draw in regulation. It was a performance that crowned a commanding season and featured 19 tournament goals from the prolific Yibbi Jansen — the women’s competition’s top scorer. The Netherlands, already the most decorated side in Pro League history, secured their fifth title — a reflection of the team’s sustained excellence and the quality throughout their squad.

Belgium, too, had much to celebrate. Their overall form across the tournament and their strong performances at home confirmed their standing as serious contenders, finishing third overall. Argentina, consistent throughout, took second place and qualified for the next World Cup — continuing to underline their top-tier credentials — while China’s fourth-place finish was among the surprises of the season, including wins over Argentina, Germany and India in Berlin in the final stages of the tournament.
Netherlands top men’s standings and Spain shake up the rankings to secure a World Cup spot
The Netherlands men’s team also finished top of the standings, built on disciplined, structured play across the league. Their consistency over months of play gave them the edge in a determined field. Spain, however, produced one of the most significant moments of the season, earning a decisive 2–0 win against Germany on home turf — a result that secured them third place in the league and a World Cup slot.

Belgium and Germany, finishing second and fourth respectively, were also consistent performers throughout — with Belgium’s Tom Boon finishing as the tournament’s top scorer on 21 goals.
Speaking to former GB goalkeeper, Simon Mason he said;
“Since I was a kid I’ve been obsessed with scoring goals. I thought about stopping last year but I still have more to give. I am just in love with the game.”
