Oman and Singapore triumph on Poligras at the AHF Cup 2025

The 2025 Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Cup came to an exciting close in Jakarta, Indonesia, with Oman and Singapore emerging as champions in the men’s and women’s finals, respectively. Played on Poligras Tokyo GT, the tournament ran from 15-27 April and welcomed twelve men’s and eight women’s teams from across Asia. AHF Cup showcases Asia’s hockey powerhouses

The AHF Cup is a crucial event of the competitive calendar in Asia, offering emerging teams the opportunity to gain international experience and qualify for higher-tier events. The 2025 edition was no different, with intense pool play and knockout matches that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Oman claims men’s title after tense final

In the men’s closely contested final, Oman emerged as champions after a gripping 4–3 win over Chinese Taipei. Oman’s experience and composure proved decisive as they edged ahead in the final quarter and held off a late surge from Chinese Taipei to claim the championship. This win secured their qualification for the next men’s Asia Cup, which will be held in India in September 2025.

Chinese Taipei came out strong when Wei Cheng-Zi scored in the fourth minute, capitalizing on a counterattack. However, Oman retaliated in the twelfth minute with Rashad Al Fazari scoring from a penalty corner to end the first quarter 1-1.

It was back and forth throughout the match, but at minute 45, Ayman Madheet scored a crucial goal, propelling Oman once more. The final quarter was tense, but Oman’s defense held firm, enabling them to successfully repel attacks from Chinese Taipei.

 
 
 
 
 
 

Bangladesh earns podium finish

Bangladesh secured bronze with a dominant 3-0 performance against Kazakhstan. Solid in defense and sharp in attack, Bangladesh controlled the game to earn a well-deserved spot on the podium.

For a 5th place finish, Hong Kong edged out Uzbekistan with a narrow 4-3 victory while Sri Lanka wrapped up their tournament with a 6-4 win over Thailand during the 7th place match. Indonesia triumphed 5-3 over Singapore in the battle for 9th place.

Tsung-Yu Hsieh (TPE) was awarded Player of the Tournament for his outstanding efforts and 16 goals scored.

 

Singapore wins women’s AHF Cup 2025 after shootout

The women’s final delivered a sensational show and saw Singapore continue their upward trajectory in the sport with a victory over Chinese Taipei. Singapore’s dominance throughout the tournament continued in a tactical performance during the final, which ended 1-1 in regular time. The dramatic shootout determined the winners with a final score of 3-2.

The intense battle on the field endured until the 4th quarter when Yah-Han Lai marked a goal for Chinese Taipei to take the lead 1–0. Singapore quickly responded 7 minutes later with a penalty corner goal by Jolene Ng, evening out the score and sending the match into a shootout. Chinese Taipei finished with a silver medal after a strong tournament showing.

 
 
 

Bronze for Hong Kong

The bronze medal match was just as dramatic, as Hong Kong China and Indonesia also drew 2-2 in regular time. Hong Kong China edged the shootout 3-2, earning a podium finish.

Uzbekistan took on Sri Lanka for the 5th place match, which tied 3-3 at full time, sending the game into another SO countdown. Sri Lanka proved victorious with a 3-1 shootout score. 

Dayana Ong (SGP) was named Player of the Tournament. The competition demonstrated the rising standard of women’s hockey in Asia with passion and sportsmanship on full display.

 
 
 

Poligras is the chosen surface for elite hockey

The AHF Cup took place at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, which has become the preferred venue for elite hockey tournaments in the region. The stadium is equipped with a Poligras Tokyo GT turf, the same surface used at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
